Which Laser machine do you use?

We use the MedLite C6 tattoo laser which is the gold standard for laser tattoo removal. It has four wavelengths to remove all colors of ink. Some colors are more difficult to remove such as blue and green and may require several/additional treatments.

What qualifications and how much experience do the Laser Technicians have?

To remove tattoos with a laser in Queensland you must have a current "Radiation Licence". To obtain that licence you must first get a "Maintain Infection Control Standards Certificate" and a "Laser Safety Officer Certificate". You must have completed a minimum of 100 supervised hrs to obtain the licence to remove tattoos.  Our Laser Technicians have all these qualifications plus another 5 years of Laser Tattoo removal in clinic. The laser room and all laser machines must all have a current certification with Queensland Radiation. When having tattoo removal done make sure that your technician has these qualifications.

How many treatments does it require?

On average, tattoo removal takes between 5 and 15 tattoo treatments. Factors like how much and what type of ink is in the tattoo, ink colours used, skin colour, location and age of the tattoo effect how many treatments you will need. When you come in for a consultation we can look at your tattoo and review all of this with you. All tattoos are very much individually put on. It is very difficult by just looking at the tattoo with out a treatment to say for certain how many treatments it will take to remove.

How often do I came back for treatments?

Minimum time between treatments is 6 weeks.

Who can't have it done?

If you are breast feeding or pregnant, taking medication that causes light sensitivity or generally unwell.

What are the limitations after treatment, any down time?

You can go about your normal routine but avoid sun exposure as it may cause blisters. Limit the amount of physical activity that you do in the first 24 hours as this too can over heat the skin causing the tattoo to blister. Showers can be taken but only if they are luke warm and you use mild soap. There isn't any down time as such. The sting goes away quickly.

What does the skin look like after the treatment & how do I look after it?

The skin will be red, swollen & puffy and it can also have blood blanching. This is all normal and you must ice the area and use our soothing gel at least 3-5 times the day after the treatment. This will prevent blistering. Blistering is common with advanced treatments. ICE ICE ICE

Does the laser cause scarring?

Most of the time no, but 99% of avoiding scarring is being compliant with aftercare instructions. If you are not compliant with after care instructions and develop a blister it could cause scarring. If you already have a scar under the tattoo it will still be there when the tattoo is removed. If there is a lot of ink and the tattoo is raised above the skin surface the skin may remain raised but without the ink colour.

Does it hurt? What should I expect it to feel like?

This tattoo removal procedure is a little more uncomfortable than getting a tattoo, it is been removed all at once not like when it is been put on tiny bits at a time. However it is very fast, over and done quickly with one of the best laser tattoo removal machines. Most treatments take between 25-60 seconds depends on the size of the area.  We use a machine that blows refrigerated air on the area to be treated to numb it before treatment begins. Some clients like to get numbing cream and apply 30-60 mins before the treatment.

Will I blister and scab afterwards?

To prevent any blisters please use a cube of ice 3-5 times on the day of the treatment and the prescribed gel. We try to avoid blisters and scabs but they can happen and are normal. You should not pop or pick at them. If it is bothering you feel free to call us 0499383821 If the blister pops on its own, keep the skin over it. Keep it clean to avoid getting an infection and follow strictly the after care instructions

Can I lighten the tattoo to have another one put on top?

Yes, depending on the colours of the tattoo. Very dark tattoos with lots of ink in the skin will require more treatments. We recommend 2 & more tattoo removal treatments to lighten the existing tattoo before having it covered. Check with the tattoo artist in-between appointments to see if it is light enough to apply the new tattoo over the top. You should wait a minimum of six weeks between your last treatment and when you apply the new tattoo.

Can someone come in the room with me while I'm having a treatment done?qualifications certificates diploma

Yes we have safety glasses that can be worn.

How old do I have to be to have tattoo removal done?

There isn't a age restriction, however if the client is under 18 years of age we will need a parent or guardian to be present.

Will the tattoo become lighter with one treatment?

Yes there will be fading and lightening of the colour, even if it is black the colour fades to a brown and so on, after just one treatment. We take photos of the tattoo before each treatment so you can see the change in the tattoo. It does take more than one treatment to remove a tattoo. Because you are looking at the tattoo all them time you may sometimes think there has been no change until you view the before photos. If the tattoo has a lot of ink it can take a few treatments to see it flatten, after that it should fade quicker.

If the tattoo looks healed can I come in before six weeks?

It takes four weeks for the body to start breaking down the ink after a treatment and even though the tattoo may appear healed, it is not. The laser removes and breaks the ink molecules into smaller pieces and then the body's lymphatic system removes the debris. Envision a man with a wheel barrow carrying away a pile of broken up bricks. This process takes 4-6 weeks so getting treated sooner than that will not make the tattoo removal any quicker and can also put you at risk for scarring. Time is needed for the smashed ink molecules to be carried away.

Can I have just a piece of the tattoo removed?

Yes, our technicians are experienced and our tattoo removal machine is accurate so we can remove unwanted parts of tattoos.

I have permanent make-up (lip liner, eyeliner, eyebrows). Can you remove it?

Yes we can remove these but there is a risk associated with it. Some cosmetic inks have metallic bases and when the laser hits it, it can turn black. Once this darkening occurs, it takes much longer to remove. A test spot is always done first.

I got my tattoo one week ago. Can I have it removed right now?

Unfortunately no. You must wait six to eight  weeks after a tattoo has been put on to start the laser tattoo removal process.

Can multi-colored tattoos be removed fully?

In most situations yes, but not always.

How does ink type impact tattoo removal?

Amateur and homemade inks can be easier to remove. Amateur tattoo artistry often means that the ink is not as deep as a professionally trained artist. There are also a variety of inks that professionals use that can make the removal process more difficult. All tattoos are very much individually put on. It is very difficult by just looking at the tattoo with out a treatment to say for certain how many treatments it will take to remove.

Why do some peoples tattoos disappear faster than others?

There are many factors that go into the number of sessions an individual needs to remove a tattoo.  As we’ve noted, laser tattoo removal is the process of breaking up and destroying ink pigment in your skin . Because inks, depth of ink penetration and skin type vary, so does the number of sessions needed. The skin the body’s largest organ. Healthy organs are more resilient. A patient’s level of hydration, strength of immune system and overall health are also factors. The age of the tattoo is a factor. In terms of session length, a patient is limited to 15-20 minutes during a typical session based on how much pigment can actually breakdown at any given time as well as pain tolerance. Longer sessions cause too much skin irritation and increase after effects.
