Electrolysis
What is Electrolysis?
At Skin Sensations we offer electrolysis for the successful and long-term permanent reduction of unwanted hair. Unlike our IPL and Laser permanent hair reduction treatments, which are the best methods for removing dark hair on the face and body, electrolysis is recommended for smaller areas of stubborn coarse lightly coloured hair that generally affects the lip, chin and throat areas. All areas of the body can be done, but electrolysis is most suited to small areas with hair that doesn't have colour. Kristy is a highly trained Electrologist who works fast and efficiently to remove unwanted hairs. She will advise you if this is the best treatment option for you. To ensure the utmost level of hygiene is maintained, we use only single use, disposable needles and operate in a clean, hygienic environment. Prior to treatment, there is no prep other than to cease plucking and to let the hairs grow for a few days or until long enough to grip with a pair of tweezers.
PLEASE NOTE: Kristy is not currently taking NEW electrolysis patients. For existing patient bookings, please contact Kristy directly.
There are several different electrolysis methods available on the market. Skin Sensations uses high-frequency electrolysis, also known as thermolysis. This technique uses a high-frequency alternating current to heat and destroy hair follicles. This process involves inserting a fine sterile needle into the individual hair follicle and applying the current for a few seconds, which causes the surrounding tissue to vibrate rapidly and generate heat, ultimately coagulating and destroying the hair follicle cells.
Although very effective, electrolysis can be more time consuming than other hair removal methods. This is why we treat small areas of light hairs with this method and treat larger areas of dark hair with IPL or Laser. Kristy will be able to guide you on which method will suit your specific needs and explain details in more depth. At times, we may combine multiple methods to achieve the best results. Multiple sessions are required with all hair removal methods, to treat all of the hair follicles and the multiple hair growth cycles.
It is important to note that sometimes there are systemic influences contributing to unwanted hair growth (for example hormone imbalances causing facial hair growth). There are no methods of hair removal available on the market that will 100 percent rid the skin of hair. Our aim is to reduce the amount of hair to a manageable and comfortable level for you. Treatment plans generally consist of several sessions at 3 or 4 weekly intervals and as hair growth slows down, treatments are performed at intervals further apart until we reach the maintenance stage where treatments are only performed when required. More regular treatments may be required for systemically-driven hair growth.
